Mechanical Design with SolidWorks & Manufacturing
An introductory project track covering engineering graphics, parametric 3D part modelling and assemblies, IC-engine basics, and manufacturing process planning.
A real sequence, not a playlist
Six numbered weeks. Every week ends in a deliverable a reviewer actually checks — plan roughly twenty focused hours per week.
Course workspace: 23 lessons · 11 reads · 6 checkpoints · 6 reviewed builds
- 01~20h effort
Week 1 · Graphics, Dimensions & Tolerances
- —Orthographic views and first vs third-angle reading
- —Dimensioning discipline, fits, tolerances, surface finish
- —Reading a production drawing without guessing
Deliverable: Dimensioned drawing set for a simple bracket
- 02~20h effort
Week 2 · Parametric 3D Part Modelling
- —Sketches, constraints, features, and design intent
- —Parametric edits that do not break the model
- —Part library organization and naming discipline
Deliverable: Parametric part library of five or more parts
- 03~20h effort
Week 3 · Assemblies, Explosions & BOM
- —Mates, degrees of freedom, and interference checks
- —Exploded views and assembly drawing sheets
- —Bill-of-materials preparation with part sources
Deliverable: Assembly model with drawing sheet and BOM
- 04~20h effort
Week 4 · IC Engine & Thermal Basics
- —Otto and Diesel cycles and component literacy
- —Cooling, lubrication, and fuel-system basics
- —Efficiency and fuel-consumption arithmetic
Deliverable: IC-engine study report with efficiency math
- 05~20h effort
Week 5 · Manufacturing Process Planning
- —Casting, machining, welding, and 3D-printing literacy
- —Design-for-manufacturing notes on your own parts
- —Sequence planning: operations, tools, and inspection
Deliverable: Process plan for one modelled part
- 06~20h effort
Week 6 · Final Project Review
- —Project reflection on design and manufacturing choices
- —Completion review against the published rubric
- —Training-completion record when requirements are met
Deliverable: Final project submission
What you actually build
No copy-paste tutorials or toy repos. Every enrolled student submits a production-grade portfolio project evaluated against an industry rubric.
Bracket Assembly, Engine Study & Process Plan
Mechanical design file: parametric part library, assembly with BOM, IC-engine study with efficiency math, and a DFM-aware process plan.
Portfolio Deliverables Checked by Reviewers
Checked by named reviewers
Reviewers are named at cohort start and published with the batch. They check every submission against the rubric — passing names appear on the certificate.
- Every submission checked against a published academic and technical rubric
- One fair remediation attempt if a deliverable falls short of acceptance threshold
- No certificate without passing code checks — payment never substitutes genuine review
- Cryptographic verification QR permanently linked to your individual submission records
Where Mechanical students take this track
Matched by branch against the BEU college directory — not an affiliation claim. Academic credit is decided by each college's T&P cell, so ask your HoD to review the syllabus before you enrol.
